Florian Bergmann
Florian Bergmann (born in Berlin in 1984), saxophonist, clarinetist and composer, studied at the HfM and at the UdK Berlin. He mainly works in the field of contemporary and improvised (jazz) music. As a member of the alto sax quartet Fo[u]r Alto (with Frank Gratkowski, Benjamin Weidekamp, Christian Weidner) he elaborates extended techniques for the saxophone, microtonal playing and concepts for room acoustics. He performed and premiered numerous works by contemporary composers and was prize winner of the Hanns-Eisler-Preis for contemporary interpretation 2011.
He is frequently playing concerts in Germany and foreign countries such as the USA, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Poland.
Together with Hannes Lingens and Pierre Borel he is founder of the Berlin part of the international musicians’ collective and record label „Umlaut Records“. In 2009 and 2010 he hosted the International Umlaut Festival Berlin and the Umlaut Berlin concert series with support by the Impuls-Fonds for contemporary music.
Furthermore he was on stage with interdisciplinary performances collaborating with dancers, actors and video artists. He also has worked as a theatre musician at Berliner Ensemble, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Nationaltheater Weimar and the Neuköllner Oper Berlin.
