Kata Kovács graduated as contemporary-modern dancer in 2007 in Budapest Dance School, Hungary. She started working as a freelance dancer, working and performing in Hungary and abroad. In 2010, due to a scholarship supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union, she participated in the PORCH programme of Ponderosa in Stolzenhagen, Germany. Here, her interest turned more towards performance arts, visual arts, experimental music and conceptual works and she also started to develop her own works. Since 2011, she has been the organiser of the performance event series PORCH Extended. Additionally, since 2011, she has worked collaboratively with Irish artist Tom O’Doherty (credited as Kovács/O’Doherty), primarily on Silences, a series of minimalist performative installation works.
