Yutaka Makino

Yutaka Makino, born 1976 in Japan, is an artist currently based in Berlin. Makino deals with human perception and dynamic systems. His works seek to construct spatiotemporal abstract environments with ephemeral entities. His research operates among art, science, architecture and philosophy, involving researches in sound/form synthesis, spatial perception, acoustics, complex dynamical systems and new materiality.
 
He presented his works internationally such as The International Gaudeamus Music Week (The Netherlands), Sonic Acts XIII: The Poetics of Space (The Netherlands), STRP Festival (The Netherlands), MisukTriennale Köln (Germany), Akademie der Künste (Germany) and Japan Society (USA). He has had extended residencies in the MacDowell Colony (USA), STEIM (The Netherlands), Visby International Center for Composers (Sweden) and Technical University Berlin (Germany).
 
He has been received prizes and grants from Prix Ton Bruynèl (The Netherlands), DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm (Germany), Agency of Cultural Affairs (Japan), Pola Art Foundation (Japan) among others and commissions from Foundation Ton Bruynèl (The Netherlands), STRP Festival (The Netherlands), STEIM (The Netherlands) and DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm (Germany).
 
In 2009, he founded an independent computer music label, Strukto.
