Hyunhye (Angela) Seo befasst sich als experimentelle Musikerin mit Klang und seinem Ausdruck, dessen Manifestationen in Raum und Körper. Hyunhye Seo kennt man als Mitglied der amerikanischen Experimentalband Xiu Xiu, bei der sie seit 2009 mitwirkt. Auf ihrem aktuellen Soloalbum Strands und bei Live-Performances erkundet sie abstrakte Soundscapes, die sie aus mit Effekten verfremdeter Perkussion, improvisiertem Klavierspiel und düsteren Ambient-Klängen zusammenbaut.

Andrew Yong Hoon Lee lebt und arbeitet in New York. Seine vielfältigen künstlerischen Aktivitäten umfassen Musik und Klang, Performance, Video, Zeichnung, Fotografie, Skulptur und Installation. Unter seinem Musikalias Holy Hum ist er ausgiebig durch Nordamerika und Europa getourt und trat auch auf namhaften Festivals wie All Tomorrow's Parties in London, Primavera Sound in Portugal und Spanien und Sled Island in Calgary auf. Mit kompositorischen Auftragsarbeiten für die Vancouver Art Gallery, das International Symposium on Electronic Art, das Centre for Performance Research in New York ORF Kunstradio in Wien ist Andrew Yong Hoon Lee ebenfalls bereits in erscheinung getreten.

Das Duo Wirecutter reißt gerne Mauern ein, indem es welche aufbaut. Die Walls of Sound der beiden Musiker sind brutal, aggressiv, aber nie Angriff um des Angriffs willen. Die beiden Nachbarn Sidney Werner und Michael Hoppe trafen sich während Corona-Locdowns, versammelten sich um Schlagzeug, einen archaischen, selbstgebauten Diddley Bow, Synth-Geglibber und fanden jene rohe Körperlichkeit, die sie in ihrer künstlerischen Praxis suchten. Das durch Improvisation entstandene Material sammelten sie und konfrontieren uns nun auf dem im ausland vorgestellten Debutalbum Little Faith (VÖ Februar 2023 via Boomslang Records) mit einem Lärm, der so vielschichtig ist, dass er Hoffnung auf zukünftige Formen des Widerstands macht.

Hyunhye (Angela) Seo is an artist exploring experimental composition and expression of sound and its manifestations within space and body. She is best known for her role in American experimental band Xiu Xiu since 2009. Recently, her solo album, Strands, and live performances explore abstract soundscapes built with processed percussion, improvisational piano, and dark ambient material.

Andrew Yong Hoon Lee lives and works in New York. His various activities encompass sound, performance, video, drawing, photography, sculpture and installation. Lee writes, records and performs music under the moniker Holy Hum and has toured extensively across North America and Europe and has also performed at notable festivals such as All Tomorrow’s Parties in London, UK, Primavera Sound in both Portugal and Spain, and Sled Island in Calgary. He has also presented special artistic compositional works for the Vancouver Art Gallery, The International Symposium on Electronic Art, The Centre for Performance Research in New York, and ORF Kunstradio in Vienna.

Wirecutter enjoys tearing down walls by building them. Their walls of sound are brutalist, aggressive, but never an attack for attack’s sake. Sidney Werner and Michael Hoppe, two neighbours met during lockdown caused by the corona-pandemic, gathered around a drumset, a self built diddley bow, synthetic goo and found the raw physicality they deeply sought after in their artistic practice. Collecting material through improvisation, they confront us with a type of noise so intricitally layered it gives hope to future forms of resistance to come. At ausland, they’ll release their first record Little Faith via Boomslang records.
