Maya Dunietz
Dunietz is a pianist, composer, improviser and singer, born in Israel in 1981. Her work ranges between solo performances, composing for various ensembles around the world, writing for theater, creating sound installations, building strange electronic instruments and singing in various styles, among them heavy metal, kleizmer and contemporary classical music. Her recent projects include a sound installation at the Lunapark, Berlin, composing and touring with Hyperion Ensemble in Spectrum Festival and Eunesco festival, singing with the internationally renowned kleizmer band "Oy Division", creating a sound sculpture in collaboration with artist Alona Rodeh for the CCA Israel, for Ashdod Muesum and for gallery Yaffo23 in Jerusalem, creating the new piece "Chikos" in collaboration with Ariel Efraim Ashebl, writing arrangements for the new album of "Cheveu", composing for children's choir for Yael Bartana's film Zamach for venice bianale2011, performing her new solo piece in venuew around the world among them Teatro Fundamente Nuove for the Swiss pavilion for Venice Bianale. Dunietz is playing in venues around the world together with Eddie Prevost, John Butcher, Susan Alcorn, Heddy Boubacker, Steve Noble and John Edwards, to name a few. She plays with local alternative bands including HaBiluim and Midnight Peacocks, takes part in John Zorn's Cobra musical game, leads the avant Givo'l choir, jams in New York with such forward-thinking musicians as trumpeter Taylor Ho Bynum, harpist Zeena Parkins and guitarist Mary Halverson and, in Europe, with Na Maquina Quartet, featuring drummer Steve Noble and bass player Marcio Mattos.”
