Eisbrenner/Johansson + Beresfo

11 Mar 2005 - 21:30
Sven Ake Johansson

Norbert Eisbrenner, Gitarre
Sven-Åke Johansson, Schlagzeug
Steve Beresford, everyday electronics, sampler, toys

Einmaliges Berliner Gastspiel:

Nach vielen Jahren Bühnenabwesenheit (M.N.D.Trio) ist Norbert Eisbrenner zurück; hier und heute mit dem Schlagzeuger Sven-Åke Johansson.

"M.N.D.'s 1969 recordings have not been issued before, and they might not be easy to find now- they're on visual artist and Red Krayola synthesist Albert Oehlen's private label, Leiterwagen Rec. But the disc is certainly worth the search. Johansson is the trio's only virtuoso, but that's beside the point here. Norbert Eisbrenner wrenches sprung, warped cries from his guitar like hardly anyone else at the time (Takayanagi and Sharrock are the only comparisons, and they're more jazz-oriented players) and precious few since."

Steve Beresford has been playing free improvisation on piano and other instruments since the mid 1970s. Over the years, he has expanded his collection of small and toy instruments to include cheap electronics and samplers. This setup can be heard on various recordings. The two most recent, both released in Italy, are a duo with Tania Chen (normally also a pianist) on a Rossbin CD and duos with John Butcher and Richard Sanderson on a limited edition
coloured LP on QBico.
