"German acoustic guitarist Steffen Basho-Junghans has so convincingly furthered the Takoma-era steel string concepts of John Fahey and Robbie Basho that in his hands the instrument's potential once more feels limitless."

"Stefan Neville aka Pumice elevated the one man band to new status, shifting from melancholy miniatures to sprawling tape noise lunge, and one classic song that was a self acknowledged tribute to The Clean. Leapfrogging in his chair between a miniature guitar, tape machines, a small Casio and a detoured drum kit, peeling out blunted chords while his feet pounded away at bass and snare, Neville's three sets were among the festivals highlights"
- Jon Dale. What Is Music Festival review. The Wire.April 05.

"Pumice is the open ended solo vehicle of New Zealander Stefan Neville, wallowing in his own shit but quite comfortable with it. Stefan performs his precarious compositions on precarious instruments of dubious quality. By playing those instruments all at the same time It could fall apart at any time and it does! However Pumice songs endure, held together by the static of small speakers, endless cassette loops and the stubborn perseverance and delight in disaster of Stefan himself. Stefan has been an active participant in the New Zealand underground since the mid nineties and also makes music with Antony Milton (Sunken), Chris Knox (the Nothing), C.J.A. (thee Ideal Gus), Kraus (Olympus) as well as playing drums in The Coolies. Pumice toured the USA for two months in 2006 culminating in a Artist in residence position at AS220 in Providence, Rhode Island. Similarly in 2005 Stefan held a Artist Residency at the Museumsquartier in Vienna, Austria which was followed by a European tour. "Pebbles" is the latest Pumice release on Soft Abuse records who also released the previous album "Yeahnahvienna" in 2006."
