Vojtěch Procházka

Vojtěch Procházka (born 1981 in Prague) is one of the foremost Czech pianists and composers on the field of jazz and improvised music who currently works extensively with prepared piano, toy FM synth, various electric organs, synthetisers and electronics.

After getting a bachelor diploma at Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory in Prague he studied jazz music, composition and North Indian Classical Music for two years at the acclaimed CNSM in Paris. In 2009 he was the first foreigner ever to be accepted into the jazz and improvised music Master's program at NMH in Oslo. He got his Master's degree from NMH in 2012. During his studies he led the following projects, all focusing on improvised music: "Grydeland/Prochazka" with guitarist Ivar Grydeland (Huntsville, Dans les arbres, Anne Hukkelberg), "Vojtěch & Per Oddvar" with drummer Per Oddvar Johansen (Christian Wallumrød, Close Erase, The Source) and "Rønnekleiv/Procházka/Reinertsen" with violin/alto player Kari Rønnekleiv (Ole-Henrik Moe, Kim Myhr) and saxophone player Espen Reinertsen (Streifenjunko, Christian Wallumrød), "Zach/Prochazka" with percussionist Ingar Zach (Huntsville) and "Myhr/Prochazka" with guitarist Kim Myhr (Mural, Denley/Myhr).

His current projects are the improvising trio Bergljot (ex-Vojtech Prochazka Trio) with Norwegians Adrian Myhr and Tore Sandbakken (CDs Amoeba's Dance, 2010, tba - 2013),Vertigo - a sextet of musicians based in Prague, awarded two Czech jazz Grammys for best jazz CD (2006 and 2012), Raga Bansal with Indian violinist Harpreet Bansal and Norwegian tabla player Andreas Bratlie and live audio/video duo Procházka/Blažíček with experimental visual artist Martin Blažíček.

Vojtěch also performs solo concerts, regularly plays improvised music to silent movies, composes film music and has taught piano and composition both at the Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory and privately.
