Marc Philipp Gabriel

Marc Philipp Gabriel is a Berlin based artist working in performance, choreography and installation. He studied architecture in Dresden, Berlin and Tokyo, and was involved in urban design projects in Egypt and India, before he started working in music theatre and dance as assistant director, dramaturg and educator (Berliner Philharmoniker, Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Köln, Miskolc International Opera Festival, Oldenburgisches Staatstheater). Having completed the Dance Intensive programme at Tanzfabrik Berlin, his first solo Selbstanleitung was invited to the Tanztage Festival at sophiensæle Berlin in 2008. His one-hour-solo piece AJIMA for Maija Karhunen was premiered in Uferstudios Berlin in 2013, has travelled to MITOS Center of Performing Arts Cyprus in 2014 (supported by Goethe Institut) and will be shown at SÅNAFEST, Norway in June 2015. As a performer Marc has worked in several productions for Shannon Cooney, Matteo Graziano and others in Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Lisbon. Since 2011 he is founding and creative member of the contemporary music theatre collective rohstoff:oper that has realized two opera productions at night clubs in Berlin so far. In collaboration with BlingBlingRecycling collective he has instigated the performance practice Monday FEAST, having hosted 19 editions at various performance venues in Berlin until now. He received the danceWEB scholarship 2013 at ImPulsTanz Vienna and is about to graduate from the BA dance, context and choreography at the Inter-University Center for Dance (HZT) Berlin. This summer 2015, he will be seen in Tino Sehgal’s KISS at Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin.
