Matthias Koole

Der brasilianische Gitarriste Matthias Koole bewegt sich zwischen Improvisation und verschiedenen Formen der Zusammenarbeit, auskomponierter Musik und multidisziplinären Projekten.
Zu seinen Gruppen gehören ICNISP - Institute for Certified Nomadic Illicit Sonic Practices mit Marina Cyrino, das Gitarrenduo Oh Mensch mit Kobe Van Cauwenberghe und das experimentelle Musik-Trio Infinito Menos mit Henrique Iwao und Mário Del Nunzio.
Matthias Koole ist Mitglied des brasilianischen Labels für experimentelle Musik Seminal Records, mit dem er in Belo Horizonte zusammen mit Henrique Iwao die Improvisationsreihe QI - Quartas de Improviso organisiert.
In der Vergangenheit war er Gründungsmitglied des Gitarrenquartetts ZWERM. Er spielte oder spielt als freischaffender Musiker in Ensembles wie Ictus, Champ d'Action, United Instruments of Lucilin, Brussels Philharmonic, BIT20 Ensemble, Opera Lab Berlin...
Zu den jüngsten Aufnahmen gehören die Solo-Improvisationen 34:46, erschienen bei Seminal Records, und Disputa e Guerra no Terreiro de Roça de Casa de Avó mit Scarassatti, Henrique Iwao und Marina Cyrino, erschienen bei OEM Records.
Matthias Koole erhielt einen Stipendienpreis bei den Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik in Darmstadt (2010) und war Resident an der Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (2013-2015). Er studierte Gitarre in Gent, Belgien, bei Tom Pauwels und promovierte kürzlich an der Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte, Brasilien, mit dem Perkussionisten Fernando Rocha und der Musikethnologin Lúcia Campos als Betreuer.
Im Jahr 2021 war Matthias Koole Stipendiat im Labor Neunzehn, Berlin im Rahmen des Weltoffenes Berlin Programms des Senats von Berlin.

The practice of brazilian guitarist Matthias Koole navigates between improvisation and several forms of collaboration in written music and multidisciplinary projects.
Groups include ICNISP – Institute for Certified Nomadic Illicit Sonic Practices with Marina Cyrino, the guitar duo Oh Mensch with Kobe Van Cauwenberghe, the experimental music trio Infinito Menos with Henrique Iwao and Mário Del Nunzio.
Matthias Koole is a member of the Brazilian experimental music label/production house Seminal Records, through which he organizes, in Belo Horizonte, with Henrique Iwao, the improvisation series QI – Quartas de Improviso.
In the past, he was a founding member of the guitar quartet ZWERM. He played or plays, as a freelance musician, in ensembles such as Ictus, Champ d’Action, United Instruments of Lucilin, Brussels Philharmonic, BIT20 Ensemble, Opera Lab Berlin…

Matthias Koole was awarded a Stipendienpreis at the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt (2010) and was resident at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (2013-2015). He studied guitar in Ghent, Belgium, with Tom Pauwels and recently obtained his PhD at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil with percussionist Fernando Rocha and ethnomusicologist Lúcia Campos as advisors.
In 2021 Matthias Koole was a fellow at Labor Neunzehn, Berlin in the context Weltoffenes Berlin Program of the Senate of Berlin.
