Stefan Schneider

Stefan Schneider lebt in Düsseldorf.
1987-93 Studium der Bildenden Kunst an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, in der Fotografie Klasse von Prof. Bernd Becher. Abschluß als Meisterschüler.
1995-98 Mitherausgeber des Fotomagazins Ohio, zusammen mit Uschi Huber, Hans-Peter Feldmann und Jörg Janka.
2005-08 Lehrtätigkeit für Fotografie und Klang an der HfG Karlsruhe und der KHM Köln. Entwicklung eines neuen Seminarformats, das bildende Kunst mit Musik zusammenführt.
Nach dem Studium wendete er sich der elektronischen Musik zu und ist seither weltweit aktiv. Er ist Gründungsmitglied der Bands Kreidler und To Rococo Rot. Solo firmiert er als Mapstation. Er arbeitete zusammen mit Joachim Roedelius und Dieter Moebius (Cluster), Bill Wells, Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk, Neu!), Alexander Balanescu, St. Etienne, Arto Lindsay, Sofia Jernberg, Sven Kacirek, Natascha Sadr-Haghighian, Katharina Grosse, John McEntire (tortoise) und Susanna Gartmayer.
Er produziert, veröffentlicht Alben und gibt Konzerte in Europa, Algerien, USA, Japan, China, Kenia, Australien und Malaysia. Seit 2011 unternimmt er zusammen mit Sven Kacirek in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Goethe Institut Nairobi und der UNESCO umfangreiche Tonaufnahmen traditioneller Musik in Kenia.
Seit 2016 betreibt er das Label TAL.

Stefan Schneider lives in Düsseldorf.
1987-93 studies of the Fine Arts at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, in the photography class of Prof. Bernd Becher. Graduated as Meisterschüler.
1995-98 co-editor of the photo magazine Ohio, together with Uschi Huber, Hans-Peter Feldmann and Jörg Janka.
2005-08 teaching Photography and Sound at the HfG Karlsruhe and the KHM Cologne. Developed a new seminar format combining visual art with music.
After his studies he turned to electronic music and has since been active worldwide. He is a founding member of the bands Kreidler and To Rococo Rot. His solo moniker is Mapstation. He has collaborated with Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius (Cluster), Bill Wells, Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk, Neu!), Alexander Balanescu, St. Etienne, Arto Lindsay, Sofia Jernberg, Sven Kacirek, Natascha Sadr-Haghighian, Katharina Grosse, John McEntire (tortoise) and Susanna Gartmayer.
He produces, releases albums and gives concerts in Europe, Algeria, USA, Japan, China, Kenya, Australia and Malaysia. Since 2011, he has been undertaking extensive sound recordings of traditional music in Kenya with Sven Kacirek in collaboration with the Goethe Institute Nairobi and UNESCO.
Since 2016 he runs the label TAL.
