Boris Baltschun
Boris Baltschun (computer) is a musician and artist based in Berlin. He was born in Bremen, Germany in 1974 and studied Sonology with Clarence Barlow, Joel Ryan, Richard Barrett and Konrad Boehmer at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In the last 20 Years he has been developing his own projects between (sound) performance, installation and radio. Notably he has collaborated with Serge Baghdassarians since 1999 with whom he has performed and exhibited around the world. Together they won the Karl-Sczuka-Prize for radio art and were fellows at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. Most recently they participated in documenta14 and realized an installation for Donaueschinger Musiktage. Together they also composed five full length radio pieces for the soundart departments of Deutschlandfunk and WDR. Since ten and seven Years respectively he is working with The Pitch and the Splitter Orchester. Both groups have realized a diverse range of projects, from large format improvisation to collaborations with George Lewis and Matthias Spahlinger (Splitter) to various incarnations of the Frozen Orchestra, projects with Valerio Tricoli, Koenraad Ecker and Polwechsel (The Pitch). His solo work started with sampling experiments in 1997 and went on to focus on live-electronic performances with analog Synthesizer and Computer. He also is a regular guest of Konzert Minimal and has collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles in Europe, North America and Asia. His work has been presented in lectures and workshops at places such as the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles; the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena; the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; and the ETH Zürich. He was an artist-in-residence at the Cité des Arts, Paris and at STEIM in Amsterdam and was awarded the soundart scholarship of the Berlin Senate.
